I am preparing to replace the Goodyear Marathon radial tires on the travel trailer that I tow with my DC. They aren't worn out, but they are seven years old. Here in sunny Arizona, tires that look OK tend to come apart from the heat after a few years. Rather than have the steel belt peel off and damage the trailer, I've decided to replace the tires with bias ply tires. When those come apart, they just shred and don't take out the side of the trailer as badly.

Trailer tires that mostly sit need to have a different rubber compound to resist degradation. My favorite tire store recommends "Greenball" trailer tires. Like many things, they are imported. That's a new brand to me. Does anyone have any experience with them?

NanKang Tires

Matt,

I just went through the same thing. I have heard good things about the NanKang bias ply tires and just put a set on my 5th wheel. We will see. !;) ;) ;)

Don't know about Bias on the trailer but was told to make sure radials had a S on the sidewall to help with the rays of the sun damage.

I took off my OEM Nankang radials. I had one seperate while I was passing thru OK City, OK. last summer. Then coming back from 'Dega last October, I had three more start to seperate. When the guys took the tires off of the trailer they would just fall over on their side. All of them could of blown at any time.

Went with the Goodyear Marathons. I guess I will also have to see how it goes.

Make sure they put on load range D and not C. They quoted me the price for the LR C and I asked for D. I paid for the LR C quote and got the D's. :D

I ran a Goodyear dealership for the last year or so, and have had experience with several different tire brands. For trailers, I am a big fan of the Marathon Radials. They're nothing overly special, but they wear like iron. There's a few import radials that are supposed to be nice, but I don't mind the extra nickel or so. That, and you can put road hazard on them--nice bonus for trailers, which seem to hit everything in their path. FWIW, I don't work at Goodyear anymore, but I'd still buy the Marathons..... I'd just buy 'em from Tire Rack. :D
