Safety chain theory/practice

Got to the beach in Baja this month and found curb side tires with excessive wear on sides-inside of front one and outside of rear one. A friend crawled underneath and measured and thought axle ok but alignment not since only one side a problem. Do large tire stores with alignment facilities align trailers or do I need to search for a more specialized place? I've been told should be no problem getting back to the US if I change out the 2 worn tires and probably no problem getting back to Central Oregon but wonder if I need a larger place than Bend or Redmond to have it aligned? Trailer is 2 axle Nash 25s bumper pull 7400 lbs gross. Thanks Jim Beck

I, also, have a '98 Nash 25-S & have noticed that the inside tread is wearing-out faster than the centers & outside tread. I watch the tire pressures closely.

Often, I travel with the fresh water tank (50 gal. ) full, which, adds extra weight & I have been cross-country a couple of times.

Still, I expected more even wear.

I do really like this trailer. Nice size, for me. Tows well & has been pretty-much trouble-free.

Wear was even for 15000+ miles then went to hell. Jim Beck

A shop that specializes in trailer repairs/alignment can take care of it. They actually have to bend the axles. Trailer alignment problems are pretty common - hitting curbs, etc.

I used to jump a curb to store my old TT. After 10 k on the tires the outside of the tread was almost gone. I put a long staight edge along the sidewalls of the tandems. One tire was a quarter inch cocked in. Camping World aligns them. Needless to say I dont jump curbs any more. Bill

You might try Redding All Wheel Inc. in Redding Ca. 1 800 568 8892 on your wa home. I've been to them twice. They are good.

The axles will have to be bent back straight or replaced. I hit a good pot hole with a load and put the tire tread right against the frame from the axle bending. This was on a sunday in the middle of no where. Luckly I had some washers and was able to move the wheel and tire out away from the frame and limp on in. I replaced the axel.

Also check the larger truck stops with maintenance shops. If they can align the big rig trailers they can do RVs. Price varies with location. In southern NM I had my rv done... . alignment, tires balanced, bearings packed, and tires rotated..... all for about $150. Dual axle trailer (5th wheel@13k lbs)

I have had several trailers that started having uneven tire wear. In each case, the root cause of the problem was shackel bushing in the springs and center support that were worn out. I was able to buy heavy duty, greasable, replacements from Dexter axel. Replacement is not difficult and in each case it solved my wear problems.

So, be sure suspension parts are good before spending money on alignments.
