2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Trailer wiring electrical puzzler???

All right, here's one for you.



On the way home Friday pm the left turn signal quit working. It would come on and stay on, no blinky-blinky. Got out at the house and the brake lights were on. I pulled any fuse and relay in the fuse box in the dash and the one under the hood that had to do with tail lights, brake lights, trailer lights, etc. and they would not go out. I pulled the brake light switch and inspected it, unplugged it and they still wouldn't go out. I unplugged my electric brake controller also. Of course it was dark and raining and I don't have a garage but I finally crawled under the back and unplugged the trailer hook up harness and they went out! I've left the harness unplugged, all lights function properly, so I haven't been able to pull it off and inspect it yet. Everything else was put back in place.



Monday morning I come out and the brake lights are back on. Wife went to the store @10pm Sunday night and she said they were not on then. I got in, started it up and they wouldn't go out. I reach down and touched my brake controller (Brake Force brand, bought at Harbor Freight) and it's HOT. I unplugged it and the brake lights went out.



Is my brake controller bad? Is it a combination of brake controller and trailer light harness? Of course it's cold and nasty out now and I haven't been able to check any further.

Check for corrosion in the traler socket. It may have burnt up your brake controler also!!!!

Probably corrosion as stated above has caused the 12v constant to short to the brake light circuit.

spray some brake cleaner in the socket, check for corrosion. wd-40 will work, but will collect dirt.

I have exactly the same problem but my lights don't stay on all the time. I have figured out I have a short or loose wire in the controller. People would tell me they seen my lights flash in the middle of the night. I put a male and female connector in the power line to the controller. When not in use i unplug the connector problem solved. Note when in use the controller preforms flawlessly so why buy a new one.
