This is long, but it had to be to explain everything in order. Sorry. :(

Ok trying to simplfy my re-wiring of my gooseneck plug in my truck I purchased a plug & play trailer kit from Wal-Mart. The kind that T's into your lights under the rear fenders. Well it has 4 wires. Yellow, Green, Blue, & Brown. I know yellow & green are my signals, & brown is my running lamps. I assumed that blue was ground therefore I connected it to ground in my gooseneck plug.

This allowed my marker lights to work on my trailer, but I still didn't have running lights/brake lights/turn signals. So I went back and disconnected the blue wire in the plug and play from my ground on my gooseneck plug. I grounded the gooseneck plug directly to the reciever hitch and hooked up to my trailer to see how that would work. Hooked my trailer and no lights at all.

THEN... I noticed I didn't have any tail lights on my truck. Got in the truck and noticed I do not have any dash lights, nor gauge pod lights.

I got out my trusty test light and went all through my fuse box in the cab. Everything works..... except the Illumination plug. Of course that's where my gauges are hooked in too. I tried pulling the aftermarket plug for the gauge tap and inserting a normal 10A fuse... . nothing! :{

HELP!

Mark,

Did you check the fuse in the box under the hood? IIRC I have blown a fuse there (trailer fuse?) before and had the same symptoms. It is one of the big huge ginormous fuses, can't remember if it was red or green.

Hope this helps!

I gave all of them a thorough looking over, but I don't know which one is what because I lost my fuse box cover. I have blown the 40A fuse when I brought this trailer home, but this fuse is intact this time.

Mark,

I believe there is also a (10) amp fuse in the fuse panel on the side of the dash that controls dash lights.

Did you just check the fuses or have you replaced them with a new known good fuse?

Maybe you created a new fusible link somewhere? Hope not.

Yes I pulled the 10A fuse from above the "Illum" port & stuck it in and put a test light to it. NOTHING!

Had my cousin take it to a friends shop today to be looked at since I had to work. It was fixed within 2 hrs of dropping it off. The mechanic claimed he "cleaned the terminals" of the Illumination fuse and put another fuse in it and it worked?

Don't know, don't care my trucks fixed! Oo.

It will go to the trailershop for final re-wiring of the gooseneck hitch after I get back from Terra Haute most likely.

Mark,

Glad it got fixed.

When I delivered campers all over the country I sometimes pulled used campers. A can of electric contact cleaner was always in my toolbox and came in handy more than once.
