Wyoming RV Trip In July

New England fall trip

Need help with trailer wiring.

Here is the problem I have. There is no drivers side turn signal and break light. I checked the 7wire and 4wire plugs, their is no power on those terminals. The rest of them have power. Looked and took plastic wire cover off some of the wire loom at plugs to see if their is any thing broken or corroded, didn't find anything.

Is their a converter for this and where is it located?

I am going on a trip with my travel trailer 5/29/2010 and realy need nto get this fixed.

All help will be great.

Truck is a 2006 ram 2500 mega cab, slt, heavy duty with 5. 9 cummins and factory trailer tow package.

I don't think there is a converter, just the 7 way connection from truck to coach. I had trouble once with my break lights staying on constantly. Looked at fuses, wires, connections, everything was or seemed ok. The final fix was replacing the umbilical cord between the coach and the truck. I picked up a new one at Camping World only took about thirty minutes to replace the old one. Might be the reason for the problem your having.

There is a separate fuse and circuits for the trailer wiring in the fuse panel, have you checked that??? There was also a software upgrade on the control circuit for the trailer wiring on some trucks. . they'd overload and trip the control module... the software upgrade from the dealer raised the value of the circuit protection so it was less likely that with a short in the trailer you'd trip the control module...

BTW - if you've tripped this module it has to be reset by the dealer. .

We worked around this on some of our stuff by using a heavy 12+ lead from the battery and using relays in the trailer to run the lights... thus we use only a fraction of an amp from the LT, RT, Stop, Reverse wires in the trailer plug... .

1 - check all the fuses in the circuit panel with a test light... .
2 - if this is good than I believe you have an issue with the control module...

If you previously had the misfortune to tow a trailer with bad wiring there is a sacrificial module in the circuit of the '06 and later trucks to protect the computer. Bad wiring will blow circuits and can only be replaced IIRC.

after you get it working and get ready to install the relays be sure to install a diode in series with the relay coil and use a fuse in each leg

I had to go to the dealer to get the trailer circuit reset. The dealer had to reset the

TIPM. This located in the fuse block next to battery on drivers side. This can only be

reset up to 5 times then you have to replace it. Only the dealer can reset the TIPM.
