Looking at buying an OLD travel trailer

low rider 5er

I am going to put a 7 way conector in the bed of my truck for my fifth wheel to plug into. I was looking at the factory wire harness and noticed that the 7 way connector installed from the factory connected to the wire haness, does anyone know if chrysler or some other company makes extentions that plug into this factory plug?

That way I just remove the 7 way I have plug the extention in and route the new plug to my bed, extention would have to have a 7 foot or so cable??????

WIRING

i made my own. got some 7 wire cable tied, inito main line behind bumper. i used the middle stake pocket to mount my outlet. ran the wire down stake pocket, ran wire between fender well and fender. works good. looks good or mount on wheel well BOB

Extension cables are available through "AW DIRECT". They are

a supplier for towing & recovery. The shortest 7-way cable they have is 30', part #ST-30. They can be reached at 1-800-243-3194

or, www.awdirect.com

No affiliation with aw direct, just a satisfied customer.

When I buy a new truck, I always install a 7-pin RV connector in the bed wall at the left rear of the bed. I then solder the wiring for this 7-pin connector into the factory harness, heat-shrink all connections and then tape. This way, I have the new 7-pin connector for pulling our 5th wheel and the factory 7-pin connector for anything using the receiver.

On my Y2K,3500,I mounted another Female 7Pin on left rear side

by removing taillight assembly for install. Wired it with 7wire,came down from behind taillight and under the truck to the factory plug. Installed 7wire male plug on end and just plug it into the factory . "course' the y2k's had the factory plug pointing sideways.

Works well. . If I need the factory plug, just unplug the pigtail.

kcook,

I have had both my 1995 and my 2000 trucks set up that way. It works great. My set-up is basically the same as both Big Best's and Fuzz's.

For both trucks, I had the dealer who installed the hitch install the extension cable. These cables are available at RV centers. I didn't do my own installation, but I understand that they come about 6-8 feet long and the male end is not attached. You install the cable, cut it to length, and attach the male plug.

Mine has a female receptacle in the left rear corner of the bed. The male end of the extension cord plugs into the factory receptacle at the hitch. When I am pulling a travel trailer (rather than a gooseneck or fifth-wheel) I unplug the extension cord and plug the trailer directly into the factory receptacle. Otherwise, the extension cord remains plugged in there at all times.

The bed-mounted receptacle provides power to the lights in the camper shell, or to a fifth-wheel/gooseneck trailer if one is hitched up.

Happy towing.

My truck came with the camper package and the towing package... ... so I have the standard plug in the left rear of the bed and on the receiver as well.

Perfect, right ??

Not exactly. When I purchased an 11-foot camper, the connector was in the front of the camper and wouldn't reach. And, when I extended the trailer stinger the trailer cord wouldn't reach. :(

Two males and two females and 15 feet of 7-wire cable. Problem solved - $50.
