My truck has lost the right trailer turn signal and brake. I installed a 7 pin in the bed of the truck for goosenecks wiring it into the back of the 7 pin on the bumper. Everything worked great for a couple of weeks. Now I have no current at the rear of the truck for either trailer plugs for the right and brake trailer lights.

So I checked the fuse under hood, it was fine. I redid all of my wiring at the rear to be sure that it was not causing a problem. Now I am stumped. It appears that the problem is somewhere from the fuse box to the rear??? is it somwhere in the dash??? what should I check??? the truck is an 03 ram 2500 4x4 quad cab.

I know there is a fuse for the trailer brake double check it. Did you check for turn signal at the trailer plug? Is the turnsignal working on the truck??

Dollars to donuts it's at the splice into the factory plug. Other thoughts . . . Are you checking the trailer light fuses and not those for the truck? Did you do any pulling on the factory wires when you cut in the new wires. There's enough snow just now between me and the shop (where my books are) so I can't guide you exactly, but trace the harness forward, and check and clean all the connectors as you go. In addition to the splices, check backwards, too, at the inside of BOTH plugs for stray strands of copper that might be crossing terminals, connections pulled loose . . .

I'll say it again. There ain't a woman or a horse on earth as aggravatin' as a trailer wiring problem.

I rechecked to make sure they were the trailer fuses and they were so that is ruled out. I have checked the back of both plugs and havefound nothing out of place. I have tested the harness from the truck before the plugs and had no current for the right side trailer lamps in the harness but all others work fine. Also, all lights on the truck itself are in perfect working order.

Thank you for the suggestions so far, but it looks like I may need more. I am about to start the task of trying to trace the harness all the way to the front. YIKES! that aint going to be fun. Please chime in with any other helpful hints.

I just had a perverse thought. Make sure your tester is good. If it turns out it's not, and a good tester whows you hot at the plug, your problem is going to be on the trailer (bulb, fixture, then wiringis the order I usually check things. )

Before crawlin' around under the truck, I think I'd start from the front, and make sure both sides of Fuse 47 (for the trailer right turn signal) are hot. Then find a white wire with a pink tracer coming of the power box and check it as close to the box as you can. If it's still hot, then the fuse and relay are good. If there is no power at the fuse, you may have an issue in the turn signal stalk or harness. If there's power on both ends of the fuse but not just outside the box, check the relay. If everything is alright coming out of the box, it should be wh/pk all the way back to the connector just in front of the trailer plug. Just for kicks, is there power to the right turn sig on the four-pin connector?

Also, I'm not clear on the other problem. Is it brakes, or the right brake light?

the tester is good and the trailer is good too, I wish it were the trailer cause that would be easier to trace. The wiring for the left turn/stop and the tail lamps work fine, it is only the right turn/stop wire that has lost its current.

To clear up your question, it is the right brake light and turn signal. the trailer brakes are still powering up fine.

Also, the right turn in the four-pin is dead also.

I will check the white wire with pink tracer at the box and see what I find. I guess I will continue to do that till I get to the rear of the truck till I get to the point were the current stops.

Let me know any other things that might help me.

Thanks guys.

There are several fuses to check for the trailer wiring Fuses 1,15,24,33,46,47. Also try swapping the relay between the left side and right side trailer tow slots. You may have a dead relay.
