trailer wiring

I am trying to put trailer plug wiring on a early 91 D350 DRW box truck (picture a U-Haul truck). I have read about the stock wiring gage being minimal at best, and not to tap into it for trailer plugs.

How do you tell it the truck has heavy duty wiring? If such a thing was offered.

Where should I tap into the stock wiring for the trailer plug, and brake controller?
