Rolling camper around in driveway

I know this is a long shot, but I am asking for everyones help and advice. My parents 32' camping trailer was taken last night. It was stolen from there house between the hours of 10:00 PM and 3:00 AM. They are located in MD and are within 15 minutes of the Virginia and West Virginia state lines. It was a 2001 camper that they have only made 10 payments on. This is the first trailer they have ever owned and are extremely upset. I know the trailer could be anywhere by now, including in there immediate area, but I figured it wouldn't do any harm in asking the TDR's help in looking for it since we are nationwide.

The trailer is a 2001 Salem travel trailer. It has a 6' sliding glass door on the side and ID numbers on the gas tank grill. One set of numbers is 7712, I think the other was 4042. They are our campground ID numbers. It has a regular tongue mount hitch. It is covered on insurance, but that is not the point. I want to bring the person that did this to justice.

On a side note, the police have been notified and I am in the process of checking every campground in the tristate area personally. The camper was only at there house for 3 weeks. I have been storing it at my house for the winter and they were in the process of getting it ready for the upcoming season. There was a guy that pulled into there driveway and was looking at it about a week ago. When my father approached him, he said he had came to the wrong house. Could just be a coincidence, but maybe not. He was driving a newer, black, one ton dually ford. My father can't remember for sure if it was a crew cab or extended cab. It was a very clean truck and the other thing that caught my father's eye was that as he left he had a weight distribution draw bar in his hitch.

All I am asking for is for everyone to keep this in mind. It was white with burgundy and blue stripes. Sorry for the lengthly post, just didn't wan't to leave out any info. Thanks in advance.

Good Grief!

Lloyd,

You may also wish to post this on the

News Groups.

There's a lot of East Coast regulars there, from Maine to Florida, who are currently in various RV Parks.

Sorry to hear about this. :(

One more thing, I noticed when I checked the marker lights the other week that 2 or 3 were blown out on the top of the trailer on the back in the center cluster. I was going to replace them before I took it to the camp ground tomorrow night, but never had a chance to.

Wow, that sucks. Good luck with your search. I hope you find the trailer and I REALLY hope the creep(s) who took it are found as well.

I sent you the email address. Unfortunately, no they didn't have any pictures of the outside of the trailer. They have pictures of every pop up camper they have had, but none of this. The only pictures they have are of the inside. They might help for claiming there losses on insurance

If we catch'em may we claim they are iraqi terrorists and SHOOT 'EM??? i I am tired of thieves. Went to get bolt cutters father in law gave me so neighbor could cut the bolts off the bands on a culvert he was replacing---- gone. Found the timer for the outside lights scattered down the side walk last week in pieces and wifes pet goldfishes --gone. I didn't know big goldfish were that expensive or in demand till I went to get some more. fish smaller than hers and without all the colors were $15. 99 each. She had 82 that she's fed every evening in the summer and fall for years. even had names for some of them like Mohawk and blu spot . I'll shoot them for you, no charge for the ammo if I see them.

THANKS TO EVERYONE!!! The trailer was found! It was abandoned just over the state line about 45 minutes away. The police currently have it impounded. Thanks again to everyone!

We go to pick it up tomorrow. Unbelievably we got hooked with an impound fee and towing fee. I can't believe it. Oh well, at least we are getting it back. The police say the only damage was done by them when they pried the door open to check inside. My mother had pictures on the wall that fell and broke, but everything else seems to be OK. I will give an update tomorrow after we get it. Thanks again for everyone's support!

One more thing the recovered another today also. They say they have narrowed it down to 2 suspects and have fingerprints lifted off of our camper also. Sounds like it's time to meet the judge! :D

Sorry to hear about the warranty. The trailer was found in Leesburg VA. It was taken from my parents house in Boonsboro, MD.

Well, it's back in our driveway safe and sound. The only damage to it was the front jack from it being dropped, the sliding door between the back bunks and the bathroom came off track and the marks put on it from the police. The thieves never got inside thankfully. It was fully loaded wtih everything and ready to go.

There were some other small things like a light cover and bumper cap was missing, but for the majority it was just a dirty mess. They had drug it out onto a farm and it had mud slung up on the front and all underneath. When the police went in to search it they tracked the mud inside.

Now the good part. We got the story froom the police,, hopefully it is correct. The thieves were working for a farmer in VA and had stolen a trailer earlier in the week and brought it to the farm. The farmer didn't think to much when they brought the first one in because it was an inclosed cargo trailer. However when they brought the 32' camping trailer in he began to get suspicious and called the police. So the farmer is the one that we have to thank. If it was not for him we wouldn't have it back. Thanks again to everyone!

Glad to hear its back. Since it is fairly new I would assume that there should be full insurance coverage on it. That would cover any fees, cleanup damage, etc that needs to be done. I would also invest in a trailer ball lock. Camper World sells them.
