Hello everyone. I have a 1998. 5 Dodge Cummins with the factory tow package. The plug that is found in the back of the truck, by the hitch, is a 6 way plug with 1 round plug in the middle. The trailor I am going to be towing has 6 round with 1 round in the middle. So they are both 7 way plugs just one round and one flat. Now i have called the local dodge dealer and they have never heard of such a thing. So i called a local trailor company and they were not sure what i should do? Anyone ever had this problem and if so where can i buy an adapter? thanks, nick.

??

You may want to edit your post. You say your truck is a 7 pin (like Mine) and you also say your trailer is a 7 pin like my 5er. Not a problem.

I have never seen the center pin flat. I think that one is 12 volts power to the trailer. I am not sure I will have to go check.

If nothing else then rewire the trailer. No problem.

Good luck

See Ya

Chris

Check with UHAUL... . They have about every type adapter available. Probably run around $15, I got a 7 way to 6 way adapter there last week.

bignick33,

I'm not sure, but I think the 7 pin plug with all the pins round is a semi trailer type plug. If so, a truck stop or semi trailer repair shop should be able to get you a female receptical to mate with the round pin plug and an RV dealer would have the regular RV male so you can make a pig tail. (The RV dealer may have both parts. ) If its your trailer, just exchange male plugs.

BIGNICK33,

I think you'll find the contact in the center (the seventh contact) is backup lights. That's the way it is on my model year 2000 with factory tow package.

Not all trailers have backup lights. I added backup lights to my SunnyBrook using the center contact (the seventh contact) on the trailer plug and they work fine.

Perhaps a new plug on the trailer to match the recepticle on the truck?

adapter

thanx, steve. i hope my NAPA dealer has one. i've looked everywhere i could think of for a 7 way flat to 7 way round adapter... ... . didn't think they were made.....

adapter

ken... ... ..... it ain't that simple for some of us... ... . 3 trailers round pin plug, and the round pin plug on the rollin redneck residence... ... . in my case, the goat is the odd one. ;)

Thanks guys for all the help. I think i will check with napa, and if that doesn't work, I'll just change the plug on the trailer to the same one on my Dodge. Thanks again, Nick Kingsley.

7 pin plug

A ford buddy of mine said that they have a different 7 pin than standard. Something about that middle pin being different. If this is the case, ford should have the adaptor
