What kind of oil does the transfer case NV-272 (manuel shift) require? How many pints or quarts? TIA Sam

My 03 calls for ATF. IIRC it takes just less then 4 qts. , anyone else? Just make sure you undo the fill plug first before draining and fill till it comes back out.

I used ATF3 in mine.

Works great.

I don't remember how much it took.

Have about 6 quarts on hand just in case you spill a bottle!

I used Amsoil Universal ATF in my 03 Ram and never had any issues. I would sugest getting a pump of some sort as there isnt much room for a bottle to be tipped under there.

I was able to fill mine with a small funnel. Worked pretty well.

I used Amsoil ATF as well.

While there is some debate as to whether Amsoil ATF is really ATF+4 compatable, I figure that the xfer case is a pretty simple machine with no synchros, torque converter, or valve body, so it needs pretty basic lubrication.

I may be wrong here on the amount, but I believe it's just under 2 qts for the fill on the transfer case. I'm sure thats all I used when I done mine back last summer, used ATF+4. Also I used a hand pump that screwed onto the qt bottle,I got it at a NAPA auto parts for less than 5 bucks and worked great.

Amsoil ATF. Plus you can add more then they do from the factory. Fill the case until oil drips from the fill hole. (that is relative to the case being level).

Maybe so! Might have been thinking about the 6 speed. Regardless just fill it till it comes out of the hole. Need to crawl under mine here soon and service everything before it gets cold outside!! :-laf
