Hi Everyone

I am in need of a Transmission overhaul, and I am 99% sure where and with what product I am going with. I see when the Transmission topic comes up everyone is quick to say who they spent there money and then things get hot, etc. I was hoping you guys could give some info on your selection, to help me and some others with our selection.

How Many Miles have you logged since the rebuild?

Has it been reliable/trouble free  (once all bugs if any were worked out at installers expense :D ) for those miles?

How Much H. P.   is your truck putting to the ground (Ball Park if your not sure)?

Do you pull, Drag race (not on the highway against a PSD or Maxipad, but at the drags, unless you have a good story for us :p ), tow a lot or just daily driver?

Which product did you decide on?

If you had a new truck in need would you select the same product?

RottnDogue

You know where this thread will robably end up right:D

I'll answer your questions for MY preferences.

I went the route of having DTT products installed in my rig.

Here is what I use my truck for: mainly a daily driver, tow about once a month (more often during the summer, about every other week)

Dynoed the truck a while back and put 275 hp to the ground (will be dynoing again on 12/15, should be around 300 now. )

It has been about 15k since the work was done, no problems or adjustments required.

Read my sig. for what I chose. I would definately decide on using DTT again. I test drove three trucks before I made my decision: 2 had DTT product, one had someone elses (I'm not mentioning who's so I won't appear to flame them). The DTT trucks, one mild, one wild, shifted more to my liking.

If you are sincerely interested, come to the dyno run in Warren, RI on Dec 15, there will be about 20 or so trucks there. You can probably either drive or go for rides with fellow members that have their trucks modified. You can then know why you hear alot about "driving is believing"

I am planning on attending this time, and I think I've driven two of the trucks you have. At the time my truck was stock so it was hard to compare at the time. I am mostly looking for longevity in the rebuild... . Even though I hope to be 400 HP some day soon. Not sure if that's even possible to have 400 ponies and be reliable, but that is my dream :D :D

reliable ... thats a tough one ... hasn't left me stranded except for when i huffed a turbo .

my trans has yet to get the DTT full treatment , no time to work on our own stuff because we are taking care of everyone else ... hopefully i get to it before the next race season ...

how you drive it and maintain it will depend on how long and well it lives . this goes for anyones product ... anyone that tells you that their products are bulletproof is full of it .

Had Bill K do his magic at 90,000 miles on my truck. I tow a 26 ft travel trl with slide out (around 9000 lbs). I now have 119,000 miles and no problems. This is a great product and you cant deal with a nicer bunch of people than Bill and his crew. Out standing product, outstanding people, outstanding reputation- you can"t beat that.

I went up to visit Bill about three months ago. 11k trouble free miles so far. VERY HAPPY HERE!! Good people up there, awesome trip I might add. BC is beautiful. Pull over anywhere and eat wild black berries on the side of the road. I enjoyed my self so much that I am going back next year in august just for the he!! of it. :D :D :D :D

Get DTT anything else and you will have 2nd best. Mine has over 40k on it and no problems. Just ask the manufacture what stator is in it a modified stock(Dunrite, etc) or a custom made new one(DTT).

Huh?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Come on, reliable? Hmmm. Anyone remember how John killed his transmission output shaft and totally destroyed his transfer case? Anyone remember who bankrolled the warranty repairs made by his local Dodge dealer?

Repeat afer me John, "I am my own warranty station. " :D

I have a Dunrite..... it's OK, better than stock, not great. DTT wasn't in business when I ordered all the hotrod stuff in my signature from TST. The injectors I got from Joe D. I've had it for almost two years, I tow almost everyday, and it hasn't shown any signs of slippage. Still I plan to change the TC next year, as I am not satisfied with its performance. I am currently watching the ATS and DTT discussions. Hopefully the ultimate TC will be elected king of the hill within the next 6 months.

I bought the Goerend Brothers TC. Between that and the injectors it is a whole new truck. Dave helped me more than anyone else on this board and this was well in advance of my purchasing a new TC.

At 400 HP Dave will be the first one to tell you that his MILLED STATOR would be beyond its efficiency. However, for a stock or mildly BOMBed truck, I would suggest that you can't beat the value.

I drive empty most of the time and pull every weekend in the winter. I put about 20,000 miles a year on the truck. I replaced the trans in January of '98 and did a "shift kit" that fall. It still wasn't right until I revised the valvebody mods and replaced the converter. A friend just replaced his "also ran" TC with one of Dave's and is very impressed.

I'm also very happy with my Goerend modified transmission. As Extreme 1 stated, it's not for those members that are making over 400 HP. Dave says his is good for about 350 HP. It's very driveable, head and shoulders above stock and Dave stands behind his products. Good value and reliable.

DISCLAIMER: Dave is a friend of mine but I get no commission and I am not his spokesperson.

I have had the DTT TC and VB in for about 10K miles and have no complaints. The only slipping I feel is the tires in the back when I mash the accelerator. I tow light loads year round and have no problems. The service and help I recieved from Bill K was second to none and I would highly reccomend them.

I agree with the guys above, you have to modify the transmission to the HP you are going to attain. When I did mine I knew I was going to go for big HP so I did the mods that would hold the big HP.

At our last Alaska Bombers meeting I had the chance to a member that has the Goerend Brothers TC and transmission mods. He is completly happy and had nothing but praise for Dave and his service.

dun wrong trans

I had tony (owner of dunrite) give me the best he had to offer. expect the best but got the worst. the tc is very sluggish throught the powerband and the valve body is junk and shifts terrible. plus the machanics are pissed off and don't want to be there! what a screw job! stay away!

97 4x4 banks power pack dee zee 4:10 dunwrong trans

Carson6 just stated the reason that the DTT "followers" think the way they do. We just don't want to see this sort of stuff. It makes me sick to see this happen to anyone. I can always just say "it is their money, let them buy what they want", but I find it hard to just sit on the sidelines and watch this stuff happen to people that work hard for their money. Ya, I have been screwed before, I hate that feeling so I will do whatever I can to help others avoid that. I think that the reason that people get so defensive about the transmission stuff is that it is one of the most expensive mods for our trucks and about the easiest one to get screwed on. I just want to see others experience the happiness that I have with my transmission and the company that built it- DTT. Bill, Vinny (sp?), Darren, Crystal, Stefan, and Shanty are very good people who know their stuff and want the best for their customers. :) :) :D

CAnderson,

Exactly! Well said, that's the way I feel about it. I had some problems before dealing with Bill. What a difference!

carson6, you might need to boost up the power of your engine if your TC is real "tight". My truck was somewhat sluggish after the installation of the TC with only the TST #5 plate. After I added the 370s, it takes off from the start, but there is about a 600rpm drop going into lockup. John P had the same problem with his truck with only the #5 plate. He added 370s and problem fixed. Now I read in the latest TDR that he dyno'd at 508hp. John P, we used to have the same mods, give me time to catch up.

I would like to get the "lockup" type power through out the whole power band like the DTT guys say they are getting. Currently considering the DTT or new ATS converter, but I won't be ready to change till probably next summer. I want to get a new turbo first. Hopefully someone will have a "state of the art, better than anything currently out there, already proven by then" TC made. (Heard Bill is working on something new. )

I badly want to see what Bill has come up with!! If he has something up his sleeve, which it sounds like he does, you can bet it is going to be good. Come on Bill, we want to know what's up!
