Question on trans fluid and filter change. Does anyone know how many quarts of trans fluid I'll need for a pan drop and filter change? I'm also planning to do the transfer case, which I understand is about 2 quarts.

The only place I can even find ATF+4 is through DC/Mopar. Hope dealer has a filter in stock.

I'm planning on changing trans fluid and filter every 25K miles. What do you guys think about flushing the trans at a shop to get all the fluid out and new stuff in??? In this case, does anyone know how many quarts I would need... I know the first gens are around 17 quarts.

I think the capacity is 5 qts with just the stock pan and filter change. I put a MagHytec pan on mine and it held just shy of 7 qts.

Geno's said it would take 6. 5, but it took a touch more.

Just put a Double Deep mag trans pan on tonight. Went very smoothly, and when I filled up added 9 quarts to the dipstick mark. Very high quality, and I'm not easily impressed.

The Mag pan should fit all 727'. I picked up a dozen quarts of +4 fluid and it ran just over $4 a pop with a car club discount at the local Mopar dealer. Grabed an extra filter, but one comes with the new pan.

BTW, when I dropped the stock pan, although it was remarkably clean, there was a magnet inside with a coating of fine silt on it. Looked like a silver milkshake. I recently had the 15k service done, and thought they'd change the fluid and filter. Guess not. Glad I did it now instead of waiting. Can't imagine all that crud being good for the trans. I also put in a the sensor for a Autometer trans temp gauge. Wiring it will come soon, along with a few other gauges.
