Gonna be doing Fluid/Filter/Bands on my 2001 with 47RE for the first time at 30K. SHould be sometime this month.

How much ATF should I get for just a fluid/filter change ( no flush or TC) My shop manual advises of three different quantities, depending on which section you are reading!

Also If I can slide it under the wife's radar I'm gonna do a MagHytek DD pan aswell. How much more does that add to the capacity.

Also should the pan bolts be re-torqued in a criss/cross pattern I assume? Any RTV involved or just a gasket?

TIA

I put 17 in mine with the MagHytec AND T/C drain. Whatever you don't use this time you use the next time in 12000 miles anyway.

I'd get 5 gallons, don't contaminate the extra, and use it next time. Buy it now, or buy it later, has it ever gotten cheaper next year?

Very true.

How much of the ATF was for the TC drain do u think? I think my manual states that for a fluid and filter service that the trans will only need like 3 quarts for the refill. Thats a big difference from 17.

I'm just trying to get a to an amount that I would dump in right off the bat then drive the truck to get it to operating temp and check the fluid and fill accordingly.

Here is a suggestion. Take two plastic gallon milk jugs and rinse them out. Drain the transmission into a pan and let cool. Using a funnel, pour the fluid out of the drain pan into the milk jugs, this should give you a close approximation of how much you drained out and how much you will need to refill.

Good Luck,

Bill
