Greetings friends… I just received my 5 gallons of AMSOil ATF, and will soon be embarking on an ATF Fluid flush. Let me explain my process, and then I will get to my questions.

1. Drop pan, and change filter.

2. Add 4 -6 quarts fresh ATF.

3. Pull Sending and Return Cooler lines from the transmission.

4. Place Return line in empty 5 gal bucket.

5. Place Sending line in 5 gal bucket of fresh ATF.

6. Run truck in neutral until fresh fluid flows into the Return line bucket.

Now, for my questions. What I would LIKE to do is to find fittings to mate to the factory fittings on the lines. I would like to attach a clear hose with the opposite factory fitting to my buckets so that I can just simply “plug” my buckets in. Does that make sense? I’ll have the hoses attached to lids which I place on both buckets before I begin. Does anyone know where such fittings may be obtained?

Also, other ideas and/or comments are certainly encouraged.

Thanks!

Andy

That isn't the way I or most anyone else did it. You are switching to Amsoil, and the ideal is to get as much of the old transmission fluid out of the system as possible. That includes the Torque Converter and the Cooler with all of it's supporting lines. The way I did it, was the following.

1. Drop pan, remove all fluid

2. Remove oil filter and replace with new model

3. Adjust bands

4. Reinstall trany pan, with new pan gasket

5. Re-fill the transmission to the correct level

6. Remove the return line from where it attachés to the trany

7. Slip a piece of 3/4" rubber hose over return line, with free end sticking in

empty bucket.

8. Start engine and allow the fluid to circulate, watch bucket and stop

stop engine after 2-3 quarts have gone into bucket.

9. Re-fill transmission oil pan, repeat step 8, continue till clear red fluid is

flowing from rubber hose. Re-attach return line, top off fluids.

This is the sequence I use, the Band adjustment can be skipped if you don't feel comfortable doing it, though it is very simple to perform.

That's simmilar to what I was proposing (in my head anyway... evidently it didn't come out on paper that way. Short of the band adjustment... not sure how to do that at this point. The big difference to your way and the way I had developed in my head was that I was going to allow new fluid to be pulled (if that is even possible. ). I'm familliar with the method you described, and it may very well be the best way possible. I apreciate your comments and suggestions!

BTW, how far is Florence KY from Nashville ;)

Andy

EDIT: oooh. just checked... 273 miles to Pleasant View Tennessee. Scratch that idea.

AndyMan,

I like your idea but I don't think the transmission is capable of pulling fresh fluid from a bucket. The fluid going through the cooler is being pumped not pulled. If you take the line and pump the dirty fluid into a bucket the other end of the return line won't "pull" fresh fluid. You will either need to do what y-knot did or keep a steady pour of fluid going down the dipstick tube.

As far as the disconnect fittings are concerned, most auto parts stores carry the tool needed.

Thanks Rosco,

Yeah, logic kicked in while driving and pondering the issue a night or so ago. It does seem plausable though that I would somehow be able to rig up an apparatus to pour fluid back in to the return line though right? the dipstick/fill tube is such a bottle neck. I have two 2. 5 gallon jugs of ATF. That's a lot of fluid to go through a dipstick?

Thanks again.

Andy
