Trans Fluid Temperature Mystery.... solved?

Borrowed the below chart from Mag-Hytec website. It sheds some light on the dangers of running hot trans fluid. While it may have a vendor bias, Im wondering how close to accurate you guys think this chart is?

I question it as being too conservative since DC allows 260F before the auto will downshift on its own into 3rd from OD. Further, trans will not allow OD again until temp back down to 230F. Doesn't 260F seem pretty warm, if the transmission will burn up in 6000 miles?

Always learning from others and still a long way to go.....

I was getting some high temps in my 48RE before I bought the Mag-Hytec double deep pan. I put on the pan and used the ATF from Lubrication Engineers http://www.le-inc.com

I hardly ever see temps above 190 except in heavy traffic or idle for several minutes. I have since found out that the idle problem is related to the fact that these autos do not circulate fluid when idling.

The chart has been around for nearly 10 years. GM made some extensive tests regarding Automatic transmission fluid temps, and the chart represents what they found during those tests. IT has been accepted by most OEM's as a guide to transmission fluid lifespan. One note: After oil has reached a high temp, such as 250 F. Degrees, the fluid will never return to its original specs.
