230 or 255 TST plate?

Choosing 2wd or 4wd and Other Options

I bought a autometer guage, and I am told of two options by DTT.

1. Mag-Hytec pan, with sensor hole. $230

2. 94-95 Ram cooler line, with sensor hole. $100

What has everyone else done?

My 96 has the cooler line with sensor hole. That is the preferred location as this is the hottest location that you can find. Putting the guage in the pan gives more of an average temp.

I have the line now........

Originally I had a sender block from Jannetty's. Around $30. It worked fine, no leaks. When I upgraded to DTT stuff it was recommended to use the line as it would hold up against higher pressures better. I think the block would have been fine but while it was all apart it was easy to do.

I wouldn't use the port on the Mag Hytec pan. The pan temps are not what you want to read. The one's in the line are. That's where they are hottest going to the cooler. The pan has mixed fluids and the temps will read cooler.

Just my 2¢ worth,

Garrett

I have the Autometer gauge with the sender in the cooler line. I see peak temp. readings of 250. This is the max reading for the gauge. I feel the gauge was designed for an in the pan reading where 250 would be much harder to reach. Most other brands of Trany Temp gauges go to 300 or 350. This would be better for a cooler line setup.

I also have mine in the cooler line... though I'm looking for an alternative.

Yes the temps are very accurate there... . but the cooler line that I have has a horendous rattle to it. It'll drive ya nuts. Bill K put on some clamps on the line when he was out here... and that worked for a while... and now the rattle is back... So I dunno what my alternatives are... but I'd like to hear what other people are doing. .

go for the full meal deal

buy both and use 2 senders and a switch :)

I have the sender in the line and I like the new line versus the patch kit.

Why save pennys on such a large investment?

Cooler Line

I did both the cooler line and the Mag-Hytec DD pan. Not hard to do. Pan for fluid cooling; line to mount the temp probe. As the others have said, the pan probe tells what your fluid temp is in the pan. The line probe tells you how hot the transmission is working. If you change the line, you need to change the nipple the line connects to at the intercooler. That nipple has a check valve in it as does the 94/95 line. Any plain, straight-through nipple will work (proper size of course). My transmission normally runs less than 140* (minimum reading on the guage) but will climb if worked. Only climbed to 210 so far going up a STEEP mountain road. MOPAR Line PN: 5011244AA. MOPAR Nipple PN: 0118752. Got the line from DTT; plain nipple from NAPA.

If you're going to do it, do it right the first time. BF
