do any of you guys know how much hp the stock transmission will hold -or imput shaft . should i upgrade right away thanks josh

I tell you what. My transmission went out at 55000 miles and that was on a stock truck. I only pulled a boat to the river about a mile down the road about 15 times a year. Once I upgraded the transmission with a Goerand Brothers transmission with tripple disc, I wish I would have done it as soon as I bought it. Of course the auto isnt as good as the five speed at the high hp. But I have the drag comp on mine now and you have the comp you may want to think very seriously about upgrading that transmission.

what happend with your old one i have 80. 000mi on mine and knock on wood havent had any isshues yeat . but i am afraid that i start pushing power to her somthing is going to fail if you know what i mean. thanks josh

no power up grades, now have 351950kms. no trans. problems. however i dont believe these things will take much of a power increase. i only base this on what i have read on here and talking to the local d/c trans tech.

I think the 5-speed is only rated at 460 lbs torque, but most guys put a lot more than that through it. A stock clutch will slip before it grenades the trans. I will be close to 800 lbs when I'm done with mine, I'm really careful on the loud pedal when towing. The bigger input shaft will help, but then something else in the trans will explode eventually, not to mention the 5th gear nut issue. If you really plan on turning up the wick and towing with it, get the 6-speed(if you can afford it) :D :D

I got a stock 5 speed and it has 130,000 on it,at 110,000 I put in new bearings and seals the inside looked good. the gears didn't have any signs of excessive wear. The reason I put in seals and bearings was the stock clutch stared to slip with 5th wheel on the back and I installed a SBC clutch. We don't spare the ponies until we see 1250 deg. on the gauge.

01 2500 auto with 101700 miles and it shifts like a brand new transmission. My only issue has been with the APPS. I think I finaly have that licked now too.
