From what you sig says, you dont have any mods? Do you tow heavy loads?? (More than suggested?) If you dont you might want to look into getting it rebuilt and having a shift kit done. Could save you 3000 grand????? Just a suggestion.

Mine has a custom multi disk, with valve body work and i have been torturing mine for about 20k with over 400 RWHP.

I second what rrausch said except I did the DTT and love it.

You are going to put some $$ in it so YOU better be satisfied with whom ever you choose.

I would NOT mess with anyone except the majors though. They (the 4 or so majors) really have their stuff together.

Thanks all, but may have to wait a bit $$.

Trying to get the Dealer to look at the value body. The Oil is nice and pink, it does have some bubble/foam. I am think Shift solinod has gone bad. They did take a pressure reading, well that is the story now, and no pressure on the torgue or at the Gov.

Feedback?

Help us help you

Hi MBenner if you would go to the 'User Control Panel' button at the top of the forums page, go to 'edit profile' and fill in your truck info, and your location we can help you better.

I would recommend that you get the truck to a good diesel trans shop, one that does a lot of Dodge transmissions. Most dealers only replace full transmissions, and aren't very good at diagnosing problems on older trucks.

There are several different clutches in the trans, what is the trans doing or not doing?? Not shifting up? Shuddering?

If the fluid is still clear, it may be a seal problem, or a solenoid problem, hopefully not a burnt clutch pack.

PM me if you want. I will try to help.

Read 500 user profiles. Keep track of who has which transmission upgrade. Call the top 4 upgrade companies. These guys did what they did and put their $$$$ on the line with a transmission rebuilder for a reason.

I am in Gaithersburg Md, the truck is a 99 ram 3500 dually with a 4 speed auto. The truck was shifting hard into 2nd, then on the way to the dealer to get it check the trans stop shifting into 2nd all together. But would coast with no back pressure sound, also would shift into neutral and reverse with no issue. Shuddering, just building RPMs. Oil was pink and passed a very basic sediment test. Some bubbles/foam on the stick.

I was told that is did have any pressure at the Gov. or Torque. Which I would expect if they test idle. Since it is moving in first and reverse I would expect some pressure. So whether a true pressure test was done remains to be seen.

I personally suspect a bad seal or Shifting solenoid.

Found a recommend Trans shop here in MD/DC metro area. Montgomery BCC Transmissions. The Shop was straight up with me from the start, they even had a suspicion form previous work on this model trans that it could be the governor. Right inline with what most readers here suggested. I can’t do the upgrades at this time, but planning for it so I jus had the shop repair the current trans. It ended up being the governor, I am having the shop replace the bands also, pretty worn. Labor and part are about a 1/4 of what a new trans form the dealer would have been. Even if he was to rebuild the entire Trans price would be about 2/3 the cost.

My dealing with this shop have been great, I would recommend it to anyone else in the Gaithersburg/Rockville area. They are doing the work tomorrow and I should have the truck by Tomorrow evening, mid day Friday the latest.
