I have a question from my son. He just bought a 2008 6.7 it has 152000 miles. Of course as is no warranty. Test drive all was fine but the next day when he starts the truck and puts it in reverse it will kill the engine. Checked fluid level and all is fine, clean not discolored. He leaves it run a few minutes before shifting. When he starts it, it will idle at 700-750 puts it in drive and it drops to 550-650 and idles fine. puts it in reverse and it will kill. With a little more throttle it will back up fine and always shifts once it is moving. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Normal reverse idle speed is 550 RPM, which is lower than in Drive, so it sounds like his engine is just having problems trying to idle at that speed. Probably more of an engine issue than a trans problem.

My son took his truck to Rapid City Diesel to have them check it out. Took a little time but they found the problem. Low Voltage to the FCA switch. All is well and a bill less than 130.00. Would recommend that if anyone in the Rapid City South Dakota area needs help give them a call. Thanks to all.

Fuel Control Actuator, electronic solenoid on the back of the CP3 injection pump.

Sounds unlikely, but with electronics... unless a bad connection at the FCA or bad component itself. The voltage to the FCA is regulated by the ECM/PCM(5.9CR), depending on APPS position. Did the shop replace the FCA? Or did they explain how they rectified the issue? An FCA costs around $100, so a $130 bill would certainly be fair. At least you have your truck back and running, that's always the objective. Jess

I think they unplugged the FCA, blew the connection out with contact cleaner and reset the plug, $100 in labor, $30 in materials. THAT sounds more the norm for them.

If they replaced parts for that price SOMEBODY is due a butt chewing when the boss finds out.
