Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Trans or Torque C. problem? Electrical

96 2500 w/ auto, while crusing tach needle bounces, sometimes goes to "0" at same time trans shifts or t. c. unlocks or both and engine reves. This will fade in & out then heal itself for awhile. Then it may be fine for a few miles then it returns. Dealer is lost to find the problem. I'm thinking this may be a grounding problem ? if so where would I start to look? Any other ideas?

It is electrical for sure. Many tack pickup or loss of power. Any lights come on?

Sounds like engine speed sensor problem. Check the connections and make sure they are clean and tight. A bad sensor may not always show on computer and will intermit just like you have seen. Could be a bad ground or a bad battery also.

Mine did something similiar it was the connection right infront of the valve covers that runs down to where the tach picks up the signal. It wiggled loose, plugged it back in and everything was peachy-keen again.

Checked connections, look ok

checked computer signal volts, ok

Check & readjust gap to VD - was a little dirty between.

Road tests now for 2 days --a-ok Oo. Thanks to all --beers on me if you are in VT or NH
