looking for a scan tool, I need info.

for those of you that have guages and have added a higher capacity transmission pan:

does the extra capacity actually result in cooler fluid exiting the transmisison to the cooler or just have cooler oil in the pan?

I don't want to spend $$$ on concept, I much prefer actualities.

I put a Mag HITec Doule Deep pan on my 99 last week. I am running Amsoil synthetic trans fluid. The temp around here has been in the mid 90's since I put it on. Observations= Cruising temp seems to be about 3-4 degrees lower than before, in traffic no change but it takes about 2 more miles to get up operating temps when cold. I did not add the pan for lower temps but for more fluid as in hard cornering I was getting some slipping as the pump in my trans pulled all the fluid out of the pan faster than it was being returned. :D

I put my DD727 on about 2 months ago and the temp. leaving the trans runs cooler and when in traffic it goes up slower.

Trans temps in AZ with double deep

I installed a Mag-Hytec double deep and Westach gauge using the 1/8 NPT port on the pan on our 2000 Ram 2500

quad cab 2WD two weeks ago.

We live in PHX and tow a boat/trailer combination weighing approx. 3700 lbs. I bought the truck used in Feb.

We went with the double deep for peace of mind/assurance reasons because of summer towing temps of 105-115 degrees.

I towed the boat to Bartlett lake last weekend during 90+ degree weather. It's about 100 miles round trip. Combining freeway

and hilly canyon driving. In overdrive on the freeway at 70 MPH

the temp stayed below 150. In the canyon out of OD it climbed

to 150.

We hit 100 degrees for the first time in PHX yesterday. In combination freeway & city driving during lunch & after work,

I saw 150 degrees while moving and it would climb to just below

175 at stop lights etc. (all non towing of course)

I saw outside temps of 100-103.

I had no experience with these temps with the stock pan to

compare.

Your temp. sender should be in the line from the trans to the cooler or you won't have any idea of how the trans is doing only the pan temp that is of no use to diagnose the how hard the trans is working .
