My transmission has been acting up, it is changing from these two conditions. . Scenario 1: At a stop it will not drop into first, and I will have to put the shifter into 2nd and then manually shift into drive. In this case the trans never goes into first even if I start with the shifter in 1st. Scenario 2: it goes into first and won't shift into 2nd or 3rd until 30 mph. It will shift into 2nd if the shifter is in 2nd or it will shift into 3rd if the shifter is in Drive. Once above 30 mph all seems fine. I checked the speed sensor at the back of the trans and it read 680 ohms. Thought I read where it was suppose to read 1500 ohms so bought anew one and it also read 680 ohms, put it in anyway, no help. Yesterday I changed the fluid and filter using the Mopar AT-4 from the dealer. Fluid was a little brown with no bad smell. I also adjusted the bands. Rear = torque to 72 in/lbs then back off three turns. Front= torque to 72 in/lbs and back off 2 turns. Still have the same problem The truck is a 2001 Ram 2500 2WD Quad cab, 47 RE trans. Any ideas of what I should check? Don't want to go to the dealer as I'am afraid of the BOHICA treatment.

Thanks Mike

Not sure about the problem with not dropping into first at a stop, but I did have the problem where it didn't want to shift from 1st to 2nd. I also tried the speed sensor/fluid/filter/band adjust with no luck.

I adjusted the TV cable about 1/4" into the adjuster(away from firewall), and now it drives/shifts like a new truck!

Here's a link with pics. It's a 5 minute fix and free.....

Not dropping into first is probably due to a faulty governor pressure solenoid and sensor. These two parts cost about $200 and are easy to replace when the pan is off - they are right under the filter and just bolt into place.

thanks Tom! I changed the sensor and solenoid and that seams to have fixed it. . but the test drive was just around the block a couple times. Evevy gear hit in drive and would also respond to manual shifting. BOHICA to the dealer. I'm going flying! Thanks again!!

Mike
