I have a 06 2500 auto. It has 125000 miles on it.

When I take off slowly the trans hesitates between shifting the first time.

It only does it on slow starts and that is the only time it does it.

I was hoping I would get some help on this before I take it to a trans shop.

Thanks for any help on this.

Larry,

Have the bands ever been adjusted?

According to the Dodge service manual for your truck, the bands are supposed to be adjusted at 100,000 miles under normal service, or every 30,000 miles under severe service (such as towing). A misadjusted (loose) front band can give the symptoms you described.

If you're handy and have the appropriate tools, a band adjustment is something you can do yourself. Let me know if you need more information on the procedure.

Best regards,

John L.

Does it feel like it shifts to 2nd then back to 1st? If so, thats the typical shuttle shift.

At 125k if you haven't replaced the gov pressure transducer and solenoid plus checked your front band adjustment that would be the place to start.

NO the bands have not been adjusted.

Yes it seems to shift to second and back to first.

Where do I get the gov pressure transducer and solenoid?

Is the solenoid for the gov pressure transducer?

How much trans fluid does it take to change the fluid?

How much fluid does it take for the rear end and front diffe. and transfer case.

I want to get amsoil as that is what is in it.

Thanks Larry

Yes, the solenoid is for the gov pressure. There are a couple other adjustments that can be made if that does not totally cure the shuttle shift.

To just drain the pan, change the filter and the gov pieces, 6-10 quarts depending on how long you let it drain. If you have not done it the last 30k, a fluid replacement would be a good idea. This can be done by removing the rear cooler return line to route the output into a container, and, alternatley filling and starting the engine with trans in neutral to flush out the fluid.

Definitely time to verify band adjustment to see if you have the potential need for replacement.

I think the total to change the front and rear diff is around 7 quarts
