Jacobs Brake Costs & Install Difficult?

Afe Ii Fit Jd Hx55

i desperately need to rebuild my trans ... when i take off 1st gear winds up holds at 2500 rpm until i let off the go pedal and then it will shift  any ways my question is is there any cheaper of a way to rebuild the trans and have it still be a reliable, heavy duty trans (compared to stock . . which won't take much) i have called around to different companies and so far for some of the "well known" companies i'm looking at like $4000 - $5000+ i really can not afford this seeing as i am still in school i guess the only way i could is if i sold the truck ... but we all know that won't happen:D so like i was saying is there any other alternatives maybe get the upgraded converter and stock valve body maybe a shift kit any advice would be appreciated seeing as the trans needs to be done soon REAL soon thanks again

p. s. hats off to everyone on this site i have learned so much and saved so much money just from reading differant posts and asking questions i just wanted to say thanks!!

Do it yourself! Think of it as an adventure!

I rebuilt several different types of engines and standard Trannys when I was younger, without having done it before.

A guy can do anything he's got the balls to do!

One of the difficult thing about rebuilding an automatic is everything has a different name. Well, get a Manual, ask around to see if any of your friends have had auto transmission experience. Guys here have rebuilt their own trannys before.

Getting the crossmember out and back in can be a challenge--it helps to have a hydraulic spreader. And getting to the Flexplate bolts can be frustrating, but all things come to he who is patient!

The first Standard Trans I rebuilt many years ago (a 54 Chevy truck 4-speed w/ granny gear) I was given the wrong bearing retainer (looks like a piston ring), but I didn't know that. But it kept ruining the clutch shaft bearing. I ended up pulling that trans and taking it apart 4 times before I caught the problem. But I learned a HECK of a lot about Transmissions!

Go for it! Or another thing is you could get a second job to make the money to pay ATS to do it! Ha! If I were 20 or 30 years younger, I would be tempted to rebuild it myself.

That may not be a trans problem. The first to second gear shift is influenced by the kickdown cable. If the cable is stretched, out of adjustment or the bracket by the trans is bent the shift could be delayed. I had mine hold until 2000 rpm and then wham into 2nd. I bent the bracket holding the cable by the trans and it now shifts 1500-1600. :D

Check your PM's

I will be glad to put pressure gauges on your trans and test drive it. Maybe it only needs a band adjustment and filter/fluid change. This may get you by for a while.

The answer to your first question is no, there is no way to cheaply make your trans equivalent to a DTT, ATS, or other aftermarket rebuilt trans.

A full meal-deal trans is A LOT more than just a TC and VB thrown at the trans. The full overhauled trans is a 'custom-blueprinted' properly setup unit from one end to the other.

well i know the trans needs to be rebuilt i have 155k on it and it has never ben touched except for fluid changes thanks for the imput ..... lsfarm i came up to see you once before and you drove my truck ..... thanks for the help!!!

Didn't remember

Sorry Blue Beast, I didn't remember you being here, I guess I've driven and tested too many trucks!

Have you ever had the bands adjusted when the fluid was changed?? If the 2nd gear band is way too loose, it may be taking a long time to fill the 2nd gear servo with a worn high mileage seals, causing the late shift. if the 2nd gear band is broken, then the trans will eventually shift from 1st to 3rd.

The offer is still open, we can adjust the bands if you want and see what is happening inside. Some transmissions make it way past 200K, others don't make it to 30K. Just the luck of the purchase.

Call me [check your PMs] and we can talk about it.

Did you loosen or tighten the cable to get it to shift at a lower RPM? My 1st to 2nd shift is happening @ 3200rpm if I get on it from a stand still. Driving me nuts. I've tried to adjust it out with the Emjay Controller I have but it doesn't touch it a bit.
