Trany fluid change takes 10+ qts?

OK, maybe I don't understand this.

The first time I simply drained and refilled my nee MagHytec Double Deep trany pan, and I refilled with exactly 9. 5 qts of ATF+4.

This time I pulled the pan and changed the filter too. Iam up to 10. 25 qts and still below the minumum hole in the stick. Its hard to believe the filter held more than . 75 qt

On my first refill I was up to 10. 5 qts and still below the OK cross-hatching, at normal operating temp. I added another . 25 qts and it went over Max. When I drove it I had a few small bubbles on the dip stick, causing me concern it truly was overfilled.

I have drained out 1. 5 qts and started over trying to get the fluid level in the OK zone. But at 10. 25 qts Im wondering why I need so much oil this time.

What am I missing here? Did the torque converter drain down this time?

I do the shifting thru gears and ending up in neutral routine, before I check the fluid level.

Any advice and/or experiences welcome.

Joe
