Just wondering where everyone is putting their sending unit for the transmission temp gauge? I had a custom line made for the intercooler with a "T" in it for the sending unit but when the recall came out so much for that idea so I havent done my gauge install yet. I was thinking of using one of the ports on the side of the transmission but which one--------I think there is 5 to pick from.

Thanks

JIM

I'm using the lowest one on the right side of the transmission(about 3/4" up on the transmission itself). When I took the plug out there was a flow of fluid indicating to me that the sending unit would be immersed in fluid. I'll most likely be moving it to my Mag-Hytec DD pan when I install it.

The factory tempurature probe for the trans overtemp warning light) is in the pan. All the information on AT temperature from Chrysler, Ford, GM, B&M,Hayden, Modine, and others is measured in the pan. You can measure temp anywhere you want, but if you want to reference your numbers to anything else, and compare temperature to others, you need to take the measurment in the same location - in the pan.

i had mine originally in port by servo. a mistake as the spring in servo made contact w. temp probe and scared it up. moved it when maghytec dd was installed. instaltion in pan is way to go as guage is fster and more respnsive

guys that measured their temps from the pan have burned up their trannys in the past. They are not nearly as accurate as the numbers that you pull from the cooler lines. The transmission can actually be running warmer than the sensor is showing. The fluid in the pan has already been cooled. The fluid in the cooler lines has already been through the hot clutch packs, converter and transmission and are showing real world numbers of what is happening inside. You can use the pan as a quick install, but don't try to run the temps as high as the people that are getting the cooler line measurements. The numbers will be way off. Also the port by the servo is another definite no no

So which port on the side of the transmission is the BEST one to use for the probe? Also, do the trans temp gauge's come with the probe or is that purchased separately?

You are best off tapping into a cooler line for the most accurate numbers. The ports in the side of the transmission do not have an adequate amount of flow going across them to give an accurate reading. Guys that have tried this in the past have found that when they moved their sensors to the cooler lines they received more accurate numbers. And yes, when you buy a temp gauge you get the probe with it.

I bought a cooler line with a port in it for the sensor but then they came out with the recall and I swapped it out for the new line which has a piece of rubber tubing in it for the vibration factor so I'm not sure where I would put the "T" now for the sensor.

JMO, but you could buy an aux. transmission filter arrangement that utilizes an oil filter such as a Fram or whatever. The top of the filter receiver has a place to mount the probe. I've used one on my previous truck with good results. It mounts in the transmission cooler line before the cooler. You can get them through JC Whitney, JEGS, Summitt etc.

Just hose clamp it to the outlet line of the trans for a secuond best location , the best place is in the line as a "wet sensor " per say,and be sure to use a heat conductive paste and insulate til' you get place to immerse the sensor ! BTW, if you study the line connections to the cooler and trans carefully, you may see that with the right fittings, a tee may be placed at one area(trans) and a bushing or nipple may also be placed in the other area(cooler) to keep the factory spacing and prevent having to bend the original line.

That is where I got my original line from for the sensor so maybe they will cut me a deal if I send the hard line back for a new and improved line with the rubber section in it
