2001 Ram 2500 auto, When I put the truck in drive from a stop it starts in 2nd gear. When at a stop I put the trans manually into first it waits a second or to then engages. Doesn't feel like it is "sliping". No codes appear on the odometer either after it checks the PCU and ECU. Need help please.

My dad's 01 did the same. The shift selonoid and selonoid sensor need replaced. Job's not to bad. They are both on the valve body. I think the bill was arond $300 including labor. Had it fixed at a shop since the truck has an extended warranty. Shift if manually and you should still be able to use 1st gear.

Tom,

Do you have the part#s by chance just want to make sure I get the right ones. I know you got a 95 but at least it would get me close. Is the install hard?

Thanks

jcohen,

I don't have the part numbers at the moment. Let me see if I can find them. I normally do all of the work on my truck and my dad's but since it was an extended warranty through the dealer's private warranty company they wanted a shop to do it. I took it to the shop I use to work at. So I don't know how long it will take. I don't know the specific terminology. There is a decent diesel tech at one of our dealers that I can get the info if you want. I think he called one of them a transducer or something like that. I'll get back to you.

Hope those p/n are right. Don't have the receipt handy to verify.

You're looking at about $200 or so for the 2 parts. Replaced mine last month. Easy to do after you have dropped the pan. Change the filter while in there. You will need to remove it anyways to replace the parts.
