97 ram 4x4 47re trans I changed trans oil and filter. I was using the trans oil from the dealer before. I used Valvoline oil know the trans slips for the first time through the gears but is fine after that. I also noticed that stopped at a stop sign the trans will shift to neutral and back into gear. I adjusted the bands also. any ideas?

Are you sure you have it full of fluid? ATF+4?

As you probably know, check it with eng. warm and running, with trans. in neutral (not park), on level ground.

After R&R all my fluid (18 quarts?), and filter, I took it for a test drive, and it acted the same as yours. I came home, checked it again, it was 2 quarts low.

I think what happened to me was, after putting all the fresh ATF in, the dip-stick tube was so wet, fluid transfered to my dip-stick, giving me a false reading.

After adding 2 quarts, all was fine.
