Has anyone here actually swapped a 6 speed into an auto truck?

Mine is an auto, and there is some nostalgic value to the truck so I don't want to trade it off. I much prefer a 6 speed though.

I'm looking for some insight on what it takes to do this on a 3rd generation truck. I imagine new or modified drivelines are in order, along with a PCM for a manual trans... not sure what else though.

I don't know what you had in mind for a replacement for your A/T but my G56 M/T is much more than I had expected - no problem starting on hills from a stop. Just ease off the brake pedal and clutch simultaneously and engine automatically adds RPMs to keep engine and vehicle moving at idle or above - even with a 16K load. I'm sure that there's a limit but I didn't find it between Key West and Anchorage and back. Excellent system engineering!
