In my opinion you would be better off having your 47RE rebuilt by a competent rebuilder with high quality after market parts tailored for YOUR application. Do a search on automatic transmission, you'll read for weeks.

Not worth the cost and hassle IMHO when you have some great aftermarket trannys such at DTT.

I had the same idea, till I found out what it was going to cost me. Even if the transmission was given to you, the time, money, and ability to adapt it to the 5. 9 ISB is not nearly worth it. That's why I went with the 47RE. I'm gonna fully upgrade it, for about 1/3 price of the allisson swap (which should hold more than the allison could anyway).



This is based on 6 months of research and findings. Everyone on the forums though I was nutz to swap my 6-speed for an auto, but then I prevailed and amazed most of them. Welcome to the club . If you really want to persue it, PM me, and I'll try to help in any way I can.

Like the others said. it is not worth the money or the time.

Find a transmission builder that you like and go that way with it.

YOu will save more money for bombs and be happier over all.

Like what everyone else is saying. Put your money into your Trans and you will be happy. We need to still look at this Trans as a front half 727 with overdrive on it. If we can build hemi motors and max wedges and 500 440 motors then your Trans will hold up. I don’t think it’s really worth the money and time to change it over to an Allison trans but if you think you really need it then keep on searching and you will find it, I have seen an Allison in a 97 dodge diesel before and it was neat to see. If you do some research Allison rates their transmissions I think to 450 lbs, now you ask then how can the duramax be rated at 520 lbs? It’s a soft wear program called torque management!! It's in the motorhomes too . Now you would have the same concern with the non electric Allison Tran as we do with the 47RH trans. more things to add to keep line pressure up. I have been in and out of the Allison 1000 series transmissions and they are beefy inside and they weigh a ton. I did work for GM then got smart went back to DODGE RAM.

TRANS SWAP? REASON-RPM SPREAD

I DO THINK THAT STOCK TRANS IS A GOOD ONE, I RUN AMSOIL IN IT AND EVERY WHERE ELSE. AND AT THIS TI'ME ITS DOING FINE@100K. BUT WHEN PULLING HEAVY LOAD, THE CHANGE FROM 3RD TO 2ND IS TOO MUCH. AGAIN I HAVE YET TO INSTALL A BANKS SYSTEM{I'M A DEALER FOR BANKS AND WILL GET A GOOD PRICE} THOUGH I DO NOT KNOW OF OTHER SYSTEMS AND WHAT THEY OFFER? WILL THE ADDITION OF SYSTEM ALLOW ME TO HOLD IN HIGHER GEAR OR NOT, AGAIN TRAILER GVW IS 11K, MOST TOWING DONE AT AROUND 9500LBS. ANY MORE THOUGHTS. THANKS. JBR.
