Is it useful to put a trans temp gauge on a manual trans. I have an '05 NV5600 6 speed. If so, where is is usually installed? Only place I can think of is the PTO cover.

I guess it's be cool to watch, but if your having to watch out for the temp of a manual transmission, you'd have to be pulling a serious load. I'd think you'd kill the clutch long before heat would kill the transmission.

the pto cover is just thick enough i think to let a 1/8"npt catch the threads if you were to drill & tap it [and if not, weld a boss to it]... you could also stick on fast coolers and they already have a port in them to allow for measuring the trans lube oil temp. . [also adds some more capacity]

I have the fastcoolers already installed and I have a transmission temperature gauge that was a gift some time ago waiting for installation. Someday I'll get around to it. [Of course, with 5 aftermarket gauges now I'm out of space... will have to decide on a new gauge pod].

I don't tow, so the gauge will be purely for my amusement. I would suggest if you do plan to install it in the factory PTO plates that you have a bung brazed into the plate instead of trying to thread one in. Nick's right - it's probably thick enough, but why take a chance?
