I just finished hooking up my trans temp wiring after having the gauge just lighted for months now. I followed all the wiring directions and i screwed the sending unit into the port on the transmission closest to the dipstick. The temp doesn't seem to be rising at all on the gauge. I've had it idleing in neutral for about 3 minutes now. Does it take a while for the trans to heat up? Thanks

It's ready to rain here any minute and i don't want to throw everything back together to find out i wired something wrong.

Normally your trans won't heat up much till you drive it. You can put it in drive with the brake on and it will heat up fairly quick especially if you give it a little throttle.

My transmission temp gage never moved off the 100* mark until the ambient temp finally reached 80* Highest its been was 180* on a 95* day while pulling a long steep winding grade empty!:p

Hope this helps

The trans guages are fairly unresponsive in the case port or the pan. Some will argue that but I've had mine set up all 3 ways, including the line out which is the most responsive.

Go with putting the probe in the line from the trany to the cooler. Very responsive. Can be a pia to change line but imo best place for the probe.

I'd also strongly suggest you weld the "T" fitting in the line. This will help prevent loosening off due to vibrations... and a second side effect which is trying to tighten the fitting nuts even more to stop the leaks/sweats. If you tighten too much you'll crush the pipe were it enters the ferrel and too much pressure will result in flow restrictions for the ATF on it's way to the coolers. .
