First time post. What an awsome forum. I have spent many hours reading through the archives and they have answered most of my questions exept the following.

In order to make the install of my Trans temp gauge easier (more wire to work with) can I add a section of wire between the Trans temp probe and the Driving Circuit Box it is wired into or will this cause a problem with the gauge's ability to function properly

Thanks in advance for help received

Whats the brand of gage? Is it a single wire to the temp sender or is it a regular thermocouple wire?

Welcome to the TDR. :D

If you go up the the drop down section labeled discussion forums at the top of this page. There is a section in it called user control panel. In this section you can set up a signature and list your truck spec's in it. (Like you see at the bottom of my post). It will save you from typing it in every time you need to ask a question about your truck.

Ok sounds like regular wire. Thermocouple wire one lead would be red and the other would be a light yellow for a K type thermocouple. Which most aftermarket gages mfg's use.

Does the sending unit and the box have screw terminals on them?

If the sender unit has screw terminals I would just make up and new set of wires to the box. I wouldn't extend the orginals in case they did use some type of special wire for the sending unit. If they did you could always send the orginals back and get longer leads.

The probe has a short wire about 2" in length that has a small 4 pronged square plastic plug on it. The lead wire from the circuit box has the same, it is not one continuos set of wires from the probe to the box.

I just put one of those in my cousins ferd 550. I drilled a hole up thru the floor on the hump, close to the dash. That let me run the wire straight up to the box, up under the dash. On that POS it was perfect, the hump was flat right on the edge of the firewall. I put in a grommet, then pulled the wire pins from the plug, fed the wire thru and put the pins back. I had about 10" of wire left over. Hope this helps!

The wires on the ISSPRO EV trans temp sending units are just regular wire, you can splice in more length without affecting the gauge. My personal preference for splicing is soldering then covered with adhesive-lined shrink tubing. There is also a pretty neat combo splice available from Del-City which is a crimp-butt connector, in combination with a solder splice and adhesive lined shrink tube (when you hit it with the heat gun, the tubing shrinks and the solder flows).

Michael Pliska

Thanks too all that replied to this post. I did take Michael's advice and added a section of wire, soldered all joints and used adhesive lined shrink tubing. The gauge works great and the install was made easier with a little extra wire too play around with.

Thanks
