I am in the process of ordering a Trans temp gauge for my truck but am not sure what type of temp sender to buy. Has any one used the dipstick sender, I am sure that it does not give the best readings, but with only 2k miles on the truck I’d hate to replace the pan with an upgraded version with a port for the sender so soon. What is everyone else using?

The best place to install the trans temp gauge is in the hot line from the trans to the cooler. You need to purchase a line that has a location for the sender in it (the best way), or you can put one in-line (not prefered by many).

The line can be purchased through DTT.

Hope this helps.

BTW, the autometer gauge I purchased came complete with sender.

BatMan is right on!!!

The best place is in the line going to the cooler.

Why chance it? Just do it. Dipstick method is for Dipsticks ;)

Either buy a new line (the best way) or buy Mr. J's cut kit :(

I bought my Trans temp. gage from Geno's (they are made by Westach). I bought it with the dip stick sensor, but I noticed in the Westgach cataloge that they mention that it is good for trans. oil or surface mount. I mounted mine on the line from the trans. to the cooler with tape, three layers. I seem to get the same readings that everyone else gets. It is a thermister type sender so it will read the temp. of the pipe. Very easy to install.

I just switched from a dipstick sensor to a in line sensor

today. The dipstick sensor was falling apart when i took

it off. Did a filter change and didn,t see anything in the pan.

Can anybody tell me why ATF+ 4 cost so much more

then ATF+ 3? ATF+ 4 list for 30. 00 a gal. I paid 22. 00 with

a discount. Plus 3 is about half that.

The dipstick sensor was on there about 6 months.

Ok now that I determined that the best place to locate the sensor is in the hot line from the trans to the cooler can someone direct me to the proper line coming out of the side of the trans?

If you purchased the Jannetty pod for the gauge, the best place to locate is in the vertical line going to oil to water cooler on the passinger side of the truck. The front line out of the transmission is the back line at the cooler. You will need a small cutter to remove an inch to 1. 5 of the existing line. Snow King

Fabcraft transmission guage.

Oct issue of 4 Wheel & Off Road, page 143. No price listed but this company has a kit that includes a CNC produced SAE six bolt mounting plate, Auto Meter guage and mounting hardware. Does the auto have a pto plate on it?

Guess this would be for someone who does not want to go through the mounting a temp sensor on the standard plate.

SAY WHAT. PTO is on transfer case if you have the HD one. What does this have to do with monitoring Automatic transmission Temps. A gauge in the output line gives a quick reading to what is happening to the transmission fluid. Snow King

Okay, I went back and read the add again. "Fits all major brand manual transmissions plus Allison Automatics". Wrong forum on the Allison huh?
