Ok, I'll be honest, I don't drive my truck that often anymore and I don't recall what kind of trans temps I see. It's an 04 with the sensor in a deep pan. Isspro guage.

This morning on the way to work it was about 60 degrees out and the temp was around 200 driving rural roads.

I turn the key on to leave work today and the guage immediately read 160. Then same trip home, it was 85 out, same roads and a couple stops behind the school bus. It climbed to 215. Which just seems way too high for and empty truck. I thought it used to run around 160-180 but I can't recall for sure.

So if it's running hot, what do I look for. Initial thoughts are to check for leaves or crap in front of the cooler, if that's clear, have the filter changed the and fluid flushed.

Any other suggestions.

Thanks,

Nick

If your gauge goes that high when you turn the key on I would suspect the gauge or the control box or probe. The 160-180 is a normal range for that trans.

Its entirely possible the trans cooler is plugged either in the front cooler or the check ball in the drain back to get those temps. However, if they don't vary much from the 200-215 I would gues the gauge is reading off somewhere. Normally if the temp gets thta high in the pan it would get a LOT higher with minimal use.

Yeah, after running errands a few more starts today, I'm leaning towards it's guage issue.

When I started the truck up to go to dinner, the needled bounced between 220 and 250 while the truck was idling and then settled back to 200.

Next time I started the truck it bounced between 250 and the pin (280)

Third time I started the truck it didn't read at all.

I'm thinking trying a new sending unit/probe in the pan. Any idea where I can find one?

Chekc the connector by the probe and clean it up. Thats what mine does when the blades aren't making good contact in the connector.

Ok, I will check that.

I also contacted Geno's about a new sending unit should I need to try that.

I don't see it listed for sale separate from the guage.
