I just put a new trans 47re in a 03 3500 4x4 (170k) and the trans temp light keeps comming on and the shuts off overdrive. I did put a big heavy duty cooler on it as well and did away with the factory cooler. . I have lloked and cant anything on this subject at all. If you pull over and sit for like 10 mins it go and work just fine. Also the clutch stays engaged all of the time I have no idea if that will affect it either. Any help would be great. . Thanks

That light comes on at 275 degrees and due to the excissive heat the TCM (transmission control module) locks out OD in addition the converter clutch locks to help deal with the excissive temperature.

The tremperature issue needs attention, possible clogged cooler or a bad thermostat in the cooler line maybe.

What was the reason for the new trans? did the other one grenade? If so sometimes the cooler can clog with debris.

It does not have any of the factory lines hooked up at all it just runs from the cooler to trans everything is new there is not even a sensor in the line. . That is why I cant figure out why in the heck it is doing that. . It has a very big cooler on it too. . Thanks TJ

You could pull the rear line on the trans and put it in a bucket, start it up in neutral and see how the flow is. Should empty 4-6 quarts in a hurry and you don't want to leave it running after those quarts are spent into the bucket.

Yes it all is removed. . Now the temp is on too. .

The temp sensor is on the VB. Sounds like you have a bad sensor or bad connection. Since you said it feels like the clutch is staying locked checking the connections would be a good start.

The temp sender is part of the VB, well actually the solenoid pack. To change the temp sender you have to replace the TCC-OD solenoid pack which also includes the harness. You will have to remove the VB to do this. Check the connection first as cerberusiam said.
