Should my trans temp elevate if my truck sits and idles for an extended period of time??? I let my truck idle for about 15 minutes tonight (dont normally do that) and when I got back in the temp (probe in back of pan) was up to about 105 deg. ???? Dont know if this is normal, just curious what others see.

Umm, two things... yes, it should heat up since your running the fluid through a coolant type heat exchanger and,

The last I knew, the dodge trannies (the 47REs anyway) didn't move fluid around if they were in park... so there is nothing getting cooled and the TC is just spinning with what fluid it has internally...

So, yes it should heat up, try idling in neutral (with the parking brake set) so that the fluid is moving around (so parts are getting lubed and lube is getting cooled)...

Not to steal the thread but what is normal operating temperature with no load driving around town?

On a warm day, 70-80 degrees, mine runs around 150-170, this is in town driving under 45mph. I have the temp probe in a PML pan now, but previously with it in one of the test ports it read the same.

The thing is I have an aftermarket converter and valve body that allows for coolant flow in park so I figured this wouldnt be an issue but maybe its normal as all seems OK????
