I have an edge evolution CS2.. It has a transmission temperature gauge that picks up from the pan. Do I need a transmission temperature sensor in the line that goes to the cooler, also? I have everything I need to do it, but I'm just not sure it's necessary.

There is an OBD PID for the sensor so the edge can show it. You only need the extra sensor if you want a second opinion.

Used to if you wanted to drive the truck proactively then you put a sensor in the cooler output line to decide when to manually downshift and\or lockup the TC. These 6 speed units are a bit different and that may not be as accurate anymore, I think it still is vlaid but would need to do more research to make sure. The newer transmissions use lockup a lot more effectively, unless oyu are maxing out GCVW and doing a lot of hard pulling pan temp is probably quite adequate.

Thanks for the response. Based on this, I'm going to continue to monitor from the pan. Previously, I had two different 2nd gens, and I had the sensor in the cooler line of both of them. All I really need to know is whether or not the Trans is getting too hot to operate safely. Guages have sure saved me in the past. I like the way this Edge monitors things.
