trans temp sensor

i have a 1996 ctd 12 valve 2500. well i have had the tps checked out - voltages were ok when the dealer did the recall 970. my truck is still surging 200 rpm intermittently at above 1500rpm or so. dealer replaced the brake switch and this seemed to help. so i get in and start out on a 1000mi trip and after driving all day the symptom reoccurs. could this be a trans temp sensor? what is the part number and where is it located? while the symptom was occuring i lifted the brake pedal with my foot while driving down the interstate with no effect. the symptom occurs going uphill or down. any comments would be appreciated. thanks. scott.
