trans temp sensor

Ok guy's,I lost o/d a while back, I e-mailed Bill kondolay who said try replacing the temp sensor since it's cheaper then the pcm, I looked at the transmission today and found a wire that has at least two brakes in it, someone has been doing some quality work under there, about a mile of tape. my question is, am I looking at the right sensor? the one I'm looking at is on the drivers side of the trans, above and to the front of the pan on the transmission about 6 inches above the pan, not on a line. I already did a search for the location of the sensor, and everything i read was saying it was on a trans line. Any help will be appreciated

Withers sorry don,t know about the auto Nascar Mike or Bush probably will give you the run down. But sounds like the wire you found needs tlc take care bill

Quoting from the 92 Service Manual:



Diesel Thermo Switch



Fourth gear operation in the diesel 46RH is also controlled by two temperature sensitive switches.



The first thermo-switch is the engine coolant temp switch. This switch prevents fourth gear operation when engine coolant is below approx 65f.



The second thermo-switch directly monitors transmission fluid temperature. The switch will either downshift the transmission to third gear, or prevent a 3-4 upshift when fluid temperature exceeds 270-275f.



The temp switch is located in a boss built into the cooler output line. The boss and switch are located approx 2-3" from the outlet fitting in the trans case.



The engine coolant and fluid temp switches are in circuit with the overdrive control switch in the instrument panel.
