I have an Autometer Z series trans. temp. gauge and I am getting a temp reading of about 150 on the road with no load. Is this low or normal. Reason I am asking is that I had some problems with the first gauge and wanted to make sure the problem was not still there. One other thing is that the sender is mounted in the trans. pan for the time being. Will change this at a later date. Thanks in advance..... Steve

My normal opperating temp. is usually around 150. Yesterday, in 95 degree, bumper to bumper construction traffic, it was hanging around 195. My sender is in the cooler line.

I notice you don't list any transmission mods in your sig. so it's probably about right. Just a note, with my DTT stuff, running down the road at 70mph empty, it runs about 140*. This is on 100* days

150-160 on the highway is what i see, it goes up as high as 200 when sitting in traffic or driving in a lot of stop and go traffic. Once i put the Double deep Mag Hytec, that will will help a little do to increased surface area.

After my DTT mods I went back with Amsoil in the trans. and see 135 on the highway, 175 in stop and go traffic. This is with the temp in the high 90's with the sender in the pan.

Where to read transmission temp?

Where is everyone getting their readings from: cooling line or the pan?

Diesel Injection Services(http://www.dieselpage.com) strongly recommends taking it from the pan and not the line out of the transmission heading to the cooler? I've got my gauge wired and installed in the pod but I just have the pick up wire rolled up under the hood until i figure out where the best place to install the sensor... There is a temperature when the transmission fluid starts breaking down but is right out of the converter the best place to check the temp?

Driving down the hwy i stay at about 150 . Stop and go traffic I can hit 200 . The sender is in the line to the cooler. I think with the DTT converter it will run a little hotter in stop and go traffic.

The best place to install a temp sending unit is in the return line to the transmission. It is the rear line on the transmission. Now finding parts to do this with is sometimes tough. I talked with a transmission spec. and he told me that there three pressure ports on the pass. side of the transmission. This would be the next best place to put the sending unit. In the pan it is not as accurate. My sending unit came from B&M and screwed right into the port on the side of the transmission. He told me to use the middle port of the three. I have not sat in stop and go traffic but running down the road I run about 150* and pulling a 10,000lb. trailer it runs about 180*. Pulling hills in the summer time is different but it still never runs about 210*. This is the normal operating range of the transmission. transmission should run between 150* and 250*, from there on out you are damaging the transmission. Cooler is always better.

As i mentioned it is not hard to get the parts at all, just call Jannetty racing and order the kit. You get the Thermowell, and all the nessecary fittings for about 45 bucks. All you need is a tubing cutter and 2 wrenches. Should take about 30 minutes to do. No messing with the trannie taking out plugs and having major problems with the sender blocking pistons and what not.

EMDDIESEL, do you get some kind of commision by mentioning the above referenced shop a certain # of times a day? Just curious? If so how do I get on the incentive plan? :D :D :D

No, not all, i just have no problem reffering people to a good place. Plus its the only place i know that sells a thermowell kit.

I see 120-130 cruising on the hiways and in town it's been up to 196, but usually is in the 150-160 range in town, unless sitting for a spell and then she climbs--running Amsoil in the transmission--

You can order the whole cooler line with the port for the sender from Parker Motors up in Canada-877-511-5599-ask for Blair--you need to remove the check valve at the cooler if you use this new part--it was somewhere around $120 give or take a little---chris
