Trans Temps When Plowing Snow?

Quick Question for those that are plowing. What kinda trans temps are you guys seeing? What have you found in the way of aftermarket trans coolers? Who has em and whats been the best deal on some? Thanks for any info.

I've only used mine once so far, and it got up to 210 VERY fast. SO I stopped plowing for awhile and let it cool off. I was pretty PO'ed that they got so high so quickly, but I was thinking it may have been caused by my radiator cover I have between the intercooler/transmission cooler/ac condensor, and the radiator. I have yet to try it with the cover off, and hope that it is the problem and just isn't letting air pass through the cooler.

Radiator cover

The radiator cover you are using will cause the ATF fluid to overheat and fry the auto trans. You do not need to block off the radiator for heat on these engines. The 195 deg. thermostat will keep the engine at it's proper operating temperature. I would not try and re engineer an already quality design. Just my thought.

I use a radiator cover because it will take 20 minutes for the truck to warm up at times (yes while driving), if it is really cold out, so at times it IS necessary, for me anyway.



Also, the t-stat still dosen't affect the fact that these engines will cool down at an idle.



I tried plowing w/o the cover today, and still got temps of 210, but they fell quickly and never went over that mark. From now on I'll just pull out the cover when plowing.

I agree, remove the cover after you are all warmed up and toasty!

Trans Temp

I live in Southern California. Even here with morning temps at about 48 to mid-50's it takes 10-15 mins just to see a reading on the temp gauge! I have to about 15 sec's just for the glow light to go out.
