NV5600 Problem?

I need to do some trans upgrades to my 05 before I add some more power.

I have decided to go with DTT because of good passed experience with them. Has anyone used there stuff in an 05, what TC and VB did you go with and how is it all working out? The 05's are different then the 04. 5's and earlier trans.

Hey Boat

I have to tell you allot of people prefer DTT and are extremely happy with them. I also have to tell you all the performance trannies performance relies primarily on the installer IMO. I have been watching the ATS folks just getting trashed with bad reviews. Now sure there is going to be a bad one here and there and other related problems. But when you see whats required installing one of these beasts and the soft ware that accompanies it you can see that the chance for a problem does exists.

I personally preferred the ATS primarily because of the torque converters construction with their square tab engagement design (very strong) I also liked the Commander and the way I could control 1st thru O/D shifts fully locked up. Now I was lucky because my installer was Bellflower Trans here in So Ca which is probably ATS's best installer in the country. They receive all the problem solving for the state, at least thats who ATS recommends when all else fails. I worked my ATS trans for over 40K with out one problem hauling some big loads. The ATS customer service was good also they used their dime when it came time to learn the Commanders operation while on the road.

I am not much of a trans guy so hope I am saying this right but I was told by DTT that the valve body is different and that it was designed to drop pressure so that it will down shifts earlier then the older models. They also said that I have my choice of an earlier vb or an 05 vb, with the earlier being harder to setup or the 05 that would act the same but with a little higher pressure. They also said they would not use a 05 vb if the horsepower was going to be very high.

What did you decide on? I am ready to order some parts and was just curious. I think that I will go with the DTT stuff. I just need to find an installer in my area. Have you priced the installation of a valve body and new torque converter? if so how much?

what is different about the 05 transmission over the 04. 5??

I'd like to know also.

Especially between the early (03. 5) 48RE and the 05's.

Oops, I see the answer above.

I do know mine (03. 5) will lock out the overdrive, but does not have the tow option.

How does that work?

I decided on the DTT stuff and I had it installed yesterday at Baker's Diesel in Ogden UT. I went with the 89 converter, valve body, billet sero, billet accumulator piston and rear anulas ring update. All I can say is no more slush box, shifts are firm but not to harsh, fluid coupling is great, now when it shifts the rpm's actually drop. I had to drive 150 mile to get home with a lot off stop and go driving and every thing works great, I have really learned to like this 05 tow haul mode. It was about $2500 installed.

Thanks Bill for some great produces and Jason for an excellent install.
