am eventually hoping for 500 hp with auto trans stock. what upgrades are necissary and what recomended. I don't tow much (5k 1-2x a year) don't race Yet (may make a few per year, pulls, drag) mostly a commuter and firewood hauler in the summer months. thanks

I would do the following -

Billet Input Shaft

Billet Flexplate

Multidisk converter (ATS 5 star or Suncoast triple disk)

Valvebody

If you are going to do a complete overhaul, then upgraded clutches and steels are a nice upgrade.

If you're planning on racing, do as much as you can all at once rather than piecemeal. It will save you money in the long run.

Let the experts tell you what's best for your situation. Talk to DTT, Suncoast, Goerand Bros: all good companies with knowledgeable, helpful people.

Definately do as much as you can at once. I haven't done the flexplate yet, I have one sitting in the garage, but I am going to a Goerend 3 disk at the same time so no biggy. If you do your own transmission work and love being under your truck for 5 hours for tear out/install and do your own transmission work then piece meal is no big deal. But it will get very pricey if your paying someone to do it for you. I am sure you will have at least a 4 hour bill for the just the removal and install. I am definately happy with Goerend stuff and I abuse my truck quite often.
