I have a 99 with a 5 speed and I crawled under the truck to see where some oil was coming from and I looked up on top of the transmission and I could tell the oil was coming from the top of the transmission. So I had somebody get in the truck and move the shifter to see if the top plate was lose and when they moved it I could see the very top plate move a little bit, so I took out all plastic console inside on the floorboard so I could tighten the bolts up and when I finally got to them I found that they were all tight. Then I took one of the bolts out and there is a little spacer (I don't know what to call it) between the bolt and the housing, and it seems that the hole in the spacer is slightly larger than the diameter of the bolt, and that is maybe the reason that there is a little bit of movement. Is it supposed to be like this or not, I don't see how anything could be wore out because everything was tight. I need to know if I need to fix this or not because the trans is going to be out to get rebuild soon. I did look on my dads 97 but the top piece is different so I guess it is only on the 99 and up models.

I know that not many people probably understand what I am talking about (since I couldn't explain it very well) but if somebody can help I would appreciate it

Thanks,

Cory

I'd say that if that hole in the "spacer" is where the trans fluid is coming from replace it.

The top of the trans, where the shifter goes through the floor and bolts to the housing is an unusual place to see a leak though, the trans shouldn't have enough fluid inside to fill the whole housing, I'd say clean the area where the fluid is leaking from, go drive it a while, and check again.

I'm not sure on the NV4500, but there is usually a gasket of some sort b/t the shifter and the trans this may be your problem, but I dunno.

my main concern is the movement that I can see on that to plate, I guess I am explaing the spacer deal wrong, its not a spacer that is on top of one housing and below another, its between the bolt and the housing where the spacer is and I think that is where the movement is coming from.
