Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Transfer Case hard to engage

I have encounterred a problem when I try to shift to 4-hi while on the go. It will not engage until you stop and place automatic in Neutral... . Any Ideas????

Try this: Let up on the fuel as you shift. It seems to shift better with momentary no load.

I have tried that ... This is a transfer case with 290000 miles on it that has been used a littke... It has allways engaged very eaisley until I had the transmission rebuilt. Linkage looks good. Transfer case has been disassembled and no problems found... . Any ideas

Mine started to bind when trying to shift into 4-low, and I thought there was a real problem. Closer inspection revealed that removing a wrench, 2 screwdrivers, half a dozen spare bolts and about $4. 00 in loose change from the rubber boot/storage area freed up the shift lever travel considerably, and the problem disappeared. Hope your fix is as painless.
