is it safe to use the royal purple ATF? the bottle does not say anything out being the "4"rated stuff.

think maybe i should order some redline or amsoil? i got the royal purple because the dealer is across the street.

thanks for any suggestions

Royal Purple

Kurt, The plus 4 stuff is a factory secret. The +3 was first on the market @ NAPA, (Valvoline) . RP says to use their Synchromax for xfer cases, but I'm gonna buy the +4 stuff 'til I know the T-case is OK. Maybe 30K miles. THEN I'm gonna switch to RP lubricants. Just my . 02 cents worth. I really think that the RP lubricants are a very good product. Ron

I think you will find that any ATF+3 will work fine. You have to remember that DC does not manufacture the t-case for our trucks, New Venture does. Also, our trucks have the same t-cases as the Ford Superdutys and Ford does not spec ATF+4 for their trucks.

thanks for the information guys, i gonna use the royal purple stuff. just put it in both axles, you gotta love the cover gaskets on the american axles. sure beats cleaning the old crap off, cleaing, then more rtv. way to go american axles!!!!

used the penzoil stuff in the nv5600 (auto zone)don'twant to take any chances yet. if i was having any shifting problems i would have used something else but i think this one is smoother than my 2001 nv5600, even in the cold.

Kurt,

I was getting ready to change my rear differential fluid tomorrow. Got my gear lube, RTV, pile of rags, big bucket etc... I'm sure glad I saw your post that mentioned the cover gasket! Is the cover gasket a reusable type, or does it need to be replaced? O-ring or fiber type? I'm new to the Turbo Diesel Register web site, very impressed! In the short time since I became aware of the TDR, I have gained a wealth of information that otherwise would not have been possible in such a short time! Thanks to all that contribute here! Invaluable... ... :)

Picked up a gallon of +4 frm the dealer tonight for 27 dollars, plan to keep it my tool box for trans/power steering and t-case. I don't know the benifit of after market lubes for these items ! my 2 cents...

Dirt in your diff.

Make sure you clean off the the top of the diff cover and gasket area before removing cover and gasket. Or dirt will fall into the diff.
