1. Is there a way to tell which I have without the tag? The tag seems to have been removed by some "rockish" object (at least I can't find it). I seem to remember something about pto ports on the hd?

2. Also, one parts guy told me there is two different thicknesses of chain for the LD and I'd have to measure it when I got it out so he could order the correct one.

3. I can get one kit for about the third of the cost of another kit. Should I be concerned that the really cheap kit ($130usd) is going to be poor quality vs the $350usd kit?

Thanks for your help guys :)

the HD will have a PTO plate on the side which is easily identifiable by a 6 bolt plate about 4x5 inches. Don't know about the chains, but I think the chain in the HD is beefier.

The tag is on the rear, most of the way up--not far from the lube fill plug. Call 800-std-tran for info and hopefully a good price on the rebuild kit.

isnt that the transmission that has the pto plate. i have a ld t-case and the tag is located just right of the rear output, right above fill plug, if you just missed it.

good luck to ya :)

Thanks guys for the info. I'm going to get up under there tomorrow morning with some solvent and a real stiff brush, maybe I just missed the tag. Now I'm contemplating going to the heavier DHD if I do have the DLD. I do quite a bit of crawling on trails and general tough off-road stuff, so I'm thinking that the tougher DHD might be a better choice, yes? If I decided to swap over to the DHD would it be a direct bolt up, or would I need any adapter plates / have to make any drivetrain changes.

Thanks again, very much appreciated,

Coalsmoke

I've also got the light-duty case that has 4wd issues due to the snap-ring problem. I've been putting off rebuilding the case until I figure out if a heavy-duty case will bolt up.

Is there a way to weld that troublesome snap-ring in place, or prevent it from doing whatever it seems to do to mess up these t-cases?
