What's everyone running in their transfer cases for lube? I know D/C calls for ATF+4. I use to always use Dexron III. Anything better?

I have always used regular dino oil Dextron III/Mercon I believe? alwways comes out looking how it went in I do 20K mile changes on it. Probably overkill but the stuff is cheap.

I like to change my fluids frequently; overkill, perhaps, but it's cheaper than the equipment I'm trying to protect. Thanks for the reply on the Dexron III.

I have run Amsoil Series 3000 HDD 5w30 for probably about 170K+ with no problems. My next change I will put the new Amsoil MTF in that's also a 5w30 made for the NV5600. I feel the heavier lube provides a little better protection. Don't go too heavy though or the oil pump will not work.

I appreciate the replies on what you have used. I had thought about heavier oil until the oil pump issue came up. I hadn't realized how small the pickup tube was in there. Mobil 1 seems to be a popular lube along with Amsoil. What does the MTF with the Amsoil mean? Thanks

I use Amsoil 75-90 gear fluid.

Been running it since new.

There is a pump in these T-cases, but with a synthetic, works great.

Took it apart at 85K miles when I installed my DTT transmission.

Had it out, and figured why not check it for wear.

That was a waste of time. Was clean as new inside.

Even the magnet wasn't worth cleaning off.

Put some more of the same fluid back in.

That says it all when you tear them down and the wear is not even visible. The magnet would have been proof enough w/o much debris. Sounds like synthetics are able to flow through the small pickup without issue.
